Megalomaniac world leaders raising tensions
Megalomaniac world leaders are becoming more twitchy as tensions mount and the
threat or global war looms large. After 4 years of relative calm, Kim Jong-Un, of
North Korea, not one to shy away from flexing his own muscles, has just thrown
liquid kerosene on the fires. Not to mention further artillery tests over the past
weekend as well.
On Thursday N Korea carried out what’s believed to be its first Intercontinental
ballistic missile test in more than four years. So what happened to their self
proclaimed moratorium on such practice you might ask? Such an inflammatory
approach sends out shockwaves which have reverberated throughout the region and
beyond. Does long range testing not only provoke more anxiety and fears over the
intentions of the unstable and volatile leader?
What’s more, the missile launched is believed to be the largest ICBM ever tested
by N Korea, in the wake of a failed test earlier this month. It reached an altitude of
6000 kilometres and covered a range of some 1000 kilometres. After a flight time of
70 minutes it landed in waters off the coast of Japan. Not surprisingly both Japan’s
PM Fumio Kishida and South Koreans ‘strongly condemned’ the attacks.
Initial reports indicate it could be specifically a Hwasong-17 with the potential for an
even greater coverage. In Fact the projectile is able to travel well over 15,000
kilometres making it a viable threat to the United States.
This further commotion takes place as USA and Biden gather in summits with NATO
and EU nations to discuss how best to respond to further Russian incursions. The
blue touch paper has just been lit again, just when such a global scenario calls for
calm and wise reflection. Do we honestly feel any of these global leaders, many
whom we elected, are in a position to lead us away from an impending world
inferno? Do we not feel such a scenario is on our doorstep now
