The Ahmadi Religion of Peace & Light

Imam Ahmed Al Hassan is Imam Hussain pbuh

Imam Ahmed Al Hassan pbuh is the reincarnation of Imam Hussain pbuh. What do the ahadith of the Ahlulbayt pbut say about this?

There is a wealth of knowledge in terms of the incarnations of the Qa’im pbuh. The sayings of the Ahlulbayt pbut have mentioned in various ways that Imam Hussain pbuh returns in the End Times, with his companions pbut. We also know that the deeds that Imam Hussain pbuh is prophesied to do during the End Times are the same deeds that are meant to be done by Imam Mahdi pbuh, as the ahadith below clarify.

Imam Ahmed Al Hassan pbuh is the first of the Twelve Mahdis, and the messenger of Imam Muhammad Mahdi pbuh, the Twelfth Imam.

Could this mean that Imam Ahmed Al Hassan, pbuh, the first of the Mahdies, is Imam Hussain pbuh?

We know that Imam Ahmed Al Hassan pbuh has revealed that this is, in fact, true.

In the words of Imam Ahmed Al Hassan AS

And Imam Ahmed Al-Hassan PBUH said,

“I am Al-Hussain,

the carrier of the sword of my Grandfather Ali Ibn Abi Talib, Zhul Fiqar (his sword),

and the victorious with the sword,

and the avenger of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) and the Imams and the Prophets and Messengers,

the one who asks for the blood of Prophets, Vicegerents and Messengers.

I am Ahmed Ismael.”

Many ahadith of the Ahlulbayt pbut speak about this great matter.

From the Ahadith of the Ahlulbayt PBUT

The return of Imam Hussain pbuh takes place in the End Times

Burayd Al-Ijli said that Abu Abdullah (as) said in a long hadith:
“Verily, Allah promised Al-Hussein (as) that He will return him to this world so that he may take revenge by himself from the ones who did that to him.”

Al-Iqath Min Al-Hoja’ BelBorhan A’la Al-Raja’, Al-Hurr Al-Amili,1st ed., p.254, hadith 21

Al Hussain pbuh returns on the ‘trace of the Qaim

Ahmed ibn Uqba narrated from his father, he said: We asked Abu Abdullah (as) about the Raj’a, is it true? So he (as) said: “Yes.” So it was said to him (as): “Who is the first to come out? So he (as) said: “Al-Hussain comes out upon the trace of the Qa’im (as).” So I said to him: “And all the people with him? So he (as) said: “No, rather it will be as Allah (swt) mentioned in His book, “The Day the Horn shall be blown so you will come forth in groups.” (Holy Quran 78:18), a people after the other.”

Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.53, p.103, hadith 130

The first to return is Al Hussain pbuh

From Aba Abdullah Al Sadiq pbuh: “Verily, the first to return to this world is Al-Hussain, son of Ali, (as) and his companions. And Yazeed, son of Muawiya. And indeed, he will kill them, an eye for an eye. Then Abu Abdullah pbuh recited: ‘Then we gave back to you a return victory over them. And we reinforced you with wealth and sons and made you more numerous in manpower.’ (Holy Quran 17:6)” – Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.53, p.76, hadith 78

The return in the End Times is a special return

By Imam Al-Sadiq (pbuh): “The first one who the earth will split for and he comes back to the physical world is Al-Hussain bin Ali (pbut), and the return is not a general one, but it is a special one, nobody comes back except whom was absolute and pure with faith, or absolute and pure with disbelief.”

Mukhtasar Basair Al-Darajat, Al-Hassan Al-Helli, 1st ed., p.24

imam hussain pbuh promised that he would return

Imam Abu Jafar Al-Baqir pbuh said:
Verily, Al-Hussain pbuh said to his companions: “Glad tidings to you of Paradise, for by Allah we shall rest for as long as Allah wishes after what takes place upon us. Then Allah will bring us and you out when our Qaim appears, so He shall take revenge from the oppressors, and you and I will watch them in chains and shackles and the [different] types of torment.”

Maqtal Imam Al-Hussein a.s., Abdel Razzak Al-Moqarram, 1st ed., p.215

Imam Hussain pbuh returns with some of those with him

Ahmed ibn Uqba narrated from his father, he said: “We asked Abu Abdullah pbuh about the Raja (reincarnation), is it true?” So he pbuh said: “Yes.” So it was said to him pbuh: “Who is the first to come out?” So he (as) said: “Al-Hussain comes out upon the trace of the Qaim pbuh.” So I said to him: “And all the people with him?” So he pbuh said: “No, rather it will be as Allah (swt) mentioned in his book ‘The Day the Horn shall be blown so you will come forth in groups’ [Holy Qur’an 78:18], a people after the other.”

Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.53, p.103, hadith 130

Imam Hussain rules in the time of the Mahdi

Imam Al-Sadiq pbuh said: “The first one who shall return to this world (at the time of Al-Mahdi pbuh is Al-Hussain Ibn Ali pbuh who rules until his eyebrow falls over his eyes due to his old age.”

Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.53, p.46, hadith 19

And in another version: Saad has narrated from Ayyub bin Nuh and Hussein bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Al Mogheera from Al-Abbas bin Al-Aamir Al-Kasabany from Saeed from Dawood bin Rashid, from Humran from Abu Ja’far Imam Muhammad Baqir pbuh that he said: “The first to return to you is Al-Hussain pbuh and he will rule until his brows sag over his eyes due to old age.”

Mukhtasar Basair Al-Darajat, Al-Hassan Al-Helli, 1st ed., p.27

We know that the one who rules during the time of the Mahdi is in fact the Mahdi himself. So if Imam Hussain pbuh is meant to rule in that time, then surely this means he is the Mahdi in his return.

The Victor of the End Times is Imam Hussain pbuh

From Jaber Aljo’fy: I heard Aba Ja’far pbuh saying: “Then Al-Montassir (The Victor), shall emerge to the Dunya (this worldly life), and he is Al-Hussain pbuh, avenging his blood, and the blood of his companions.”

Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.53, p.104, hadith 130

Mukhtasar Basair Al-Darajat, Al-Hassan Al-Helli, 1st ed., p.49

A sign of the matter of the qaim is the return of imam hussain pbuh

…Then Imam Al-Sadiq pbuh said, “The matter of the Qa’im and his rise is to Allah alone.”
I said “O Master, does he not have signs?”
Imam Al-Sadiq pbuh said, “Rather he has various signs…And Al-Hussain enters Halwan…”

– Manuscript of Mufadhal ibn Omar, Al-Haft Al-Shareef, Door 65

The Qa’im is assisted by Imam Hussain pbuh

Abu Abdullah pbuh said: “And Al-Hussain pbuh will come forth among his companions who were killed with him, and he will have with him seventy prophets, as they were dispatched with Moses son of Imran pbuh, so the Qa’im pbuh will push forth the ring for him, so Al-Hussain pbuh will be the one who gives him Ghusl, shrouds him, does Hunut for him, and places him in his grave.”

Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.53, p.103, hadith 130

-Mukhtasar Basair Al-Darajat, Al-Hassan Al-Helli, 1st ed., p.48

Muntakhab Al-Anwar Al-Mudhee’a, Bahaa ElDin Al-Najafi, 1st ed., p.354

We know that the Qa’im, pbuh, is assisted in the End Times by Imam Hussain pbuh. And we know that the Qa’im is Imam Muhammad Mahdi pbuh, the Twelfth Imam, and his right hand is the first Mahdi, the Yamani Ahmed Al Hassan pbuh. So if the Qa’im is buried by Imam Hussain pbuh, then it stands to reason that this is referring to the first of the Mahdies.

Saleh ibn Sahl narrated that Abu Abdullah pbuh said regarding the verse ‘Then We gave back to you the return victory over them and We reinforced you with wealth and sons and made you more numerous in manpower (The Holy Quran 17:6) he pbuh said:

“The emergence of Al-Hussain pbuh in the Return, with seventy men from his companions who were killed with him. On them will be the golden helmets, each helmet has two faces, and which lead the people to the fact that Al-Hussain had emerged among his companions, so that the believers may not doubt him and so that they know that he is not a Dajjal nor a Shaytan, the Imam who is among the people on that day. So if it settles in the believers’ hearts that he is Al-Hussain pbuh , they do not doubt him and Al-Hussein informs about the Hujja the Qaim among the people and the believers believed that of him, then death will come to the Hujjah and the one who gives him the Ghusl (the ritual bath after death), shrouds him, performs Hunut to him and places him in his grave is Al-Hussain. And no one succeeds a Vicegerent except a Vicegerent.

Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.51, p.56, hadith 46

Since the one who buries the Qaim, Imam Muhammad Mahdi pbuh, is the first of the Mahdies, and the hadith tells us that the one to bury him is Imam Hussain pbuh, then it stands to reason that the first Mahdi is Imam Hussain pbuh.

Imam Hussain reincarnated as Imam Musa Kadhim as well

Imam Ahmed Al Hassan pbuh has revealed to us that the People of the Cloak from the family of Prophet Muhammad  SAWW incarnated as the twelve Imams in various rounds, one after the other.

And he, pbuh, has revealed that Imam Hussain pbuh reincarnated as Imam Musa Al Kadhim pbuh as well.

This means that Imam Hussain, Imam Musa Al Kadhim, and the first Mahdi Imam Ahmed Al Hassan pbuh, are all the same soul in different incarnations.

There are multiple ahadith of the Ahlulbayt pbut that verify this knowledge.

The Seventh Imam is the prophesied Qaim as well

Thorayh al-Moharbi said: I asked Abu Abdillah (as) about the Imams after the Prophet (sawas), so he (as) said: “Yes, verily, after the Messenger sawas there are seven Vicegerents from us, they are Imams to whom obedience is obligatory. Their seventh is the Qa’im inshaAllah. Verily Allah is Glorious and All-Wise, He makes sooner or delays whatever He wills. And He is the Glorious the All-Wise. Then after the Qa’im there will be 11 Mahdis from the sons of al-Hussayn.” So I said: Who is the seventh, may Allah make me your ransom? Your command is over my head and eyes (meaning I will surely obey your command). He said: I said three times. So he (as) said: “Then after me is your Imam and your Qa’im inshaAllah (if Allah so wills).” – Al-Usul al-Sitat’Ashr, page 91.

The only way that Imam Musa Al-Kadhim pbuh  can be the Qa’im of the End Times is that the soul of Imam Musa Al-Kadhim PBUH returns during the End Times as the Qa’im. This means, Imam Hussain PBUH is Imam Musa Al-Kadhim PBUH in his return, and he is also the Qa’im of the family of Muhammad SAWW, Imam Ahmed Al Hassan PBUH.

The Seventh is the Qaim, as interpreted from the Quran by the Imams pbut

Yunis ibn AbdulRahman said: I asked Aba Abdillah pbuh about the saying of Allah: {And We have certainly given you seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur’an.} (Holy Qur’an 15:87). So he (as) said: “Its apparent is [Surat] al-Hamd (al-Fatiha). And its inner is the son of the son. And the seventh from it is the Qa’im (as)” – Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.24, p.117, hadith 6

The father of the Qaim is Imam Jafar As-Sadiq pbuh

Al-Fudhayl ibn Yasar said: I heard Abu Abdillah al-Sadiq pbuh (father of Imam Musa Al-Kadhim) saying: “There isn’t a father between me and the Qa’im.” – Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.43, hadith 25.

Imam Jafar As-Sadiq  pbuh said clearly that the prophesied qaim is Imam Musa Al-Kadhim pbuh

Yazeed Al-Sa’gh said: When Abul Hassan Musa (as) was born to Abi Abdillah al-Sadiq pbuh, I made to him (as) an ornament from silver and I gave it to him as a gift. When I brought it to Aba Abdillah pbuh he said: “O Yazeed, by Allah you have brought this gift to the Qa’im of the Family of Muhammad (as).” – Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.44, hadith 26.

This nation will be saved by the Qaim, who is also named Musa pbuh

Abu Sa’eed Al-Madas’ini narrated: I heard Abu Ja’far, pbuh, saying: “Verily, Allah saved The Children of Israel from its pharaoh by Musa son of Imran. And verily, Allah will save this nation from its Pharaoh by a man who has the same name as Musa.”

Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.44-45, hadith 27.

The Qaim who spreads justice has the name Musa

Muhammad ibn Marwan said that a man once said to Abi Ja’far (as): May I be your ransom, they say that The Commander of Believers (as) said on the Minbar of Kufa: “Even if one day remains in this world, Allahwill prolong this day so that He may send a man from me who will fill it with Justice and Equity as it was filled with injustice and tyranny.” So Abu Ja’far (as) said: Yes. So the man said: Are you him? So the Imam (as) said: “No, that one is named the splitter of the sea (that is, Musa).”

Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.46, hadith 30

The prophesied Qa’im of the End Times was pointed out literally to be Imam Musa Al-Kadhim pbuh

Muhammad son of Al-Hassan narrated from his Father Al Hassan ibn Haroun that Abu Abdillah pbuh said: “This son of mine – and he pointed to Abal Hassan Musa pbuh – is the Qa’im, and he is from the inevitable, and he is the one who fills the Earth with Justice and equity as it is filled with injustice and oppression.”

Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.47-48, hadith 33

The Companion of the Sword is Imam Musa Al-Kadhim pbuh

Abdullah ibn Sinan said: I heard Abu Abdullah (as) saying: “From the inevitable matters is that this son of mine is the Qa’im of this nation, and he is the companion of the sword” and he pointed with his hand to Abi Al-Hassan Musa (as).”

– Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.48, hadith 34

Imam Musa Al-Kahdim pbuh was said to fill the earth with justice and equity because he is the prophesied qaim

Sarim ibn Ilwan l-Goukhi said: I, Mufaddal, Yunis ibn Thobyan, Al-Faydh ibn Al-Mukhtar, and Al-Qasim entered upon Abu Abdullah pbuh and he had with him his son Isma’il [until he said] so Al-Faydh said: “We think that Isma’il is the companion of this matter after you.” So Abu Abdullah pbuh said: “No by Allah he is not”. Then he pbuh said: “This one is the one who deserves this matter,” and he pointed to Abul Hassan Musa pbuh while he was sleeping, so Imam Al-Sadiq pbuh held him tight, embracing him, so he slept on his chest. When he woke up, Abu Abdullah pbuh took his hand and said: “This, by Allah is my son truly, by Allah he will fill it with justice and equity as it is filled with injustice and oppression.” So Al-Qasim said to him again: May I be your ransom, this one? So he pbuh said: “Yes, by Allah! This son of mine will not exit this world until he fills the Earth with justice and equity as it is filled with injustice and tyranny. I swear by that thrice!”

– Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.49-50, hadith 37

The son of of Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq pbuh will fill the earth with justice and equity as the Qaim

Isma’il ibn Mansour Al-Zubali said: I heard from a man from Azrat, whom 120 years have passed on him, saying: I heard Imam Ali pbuh from the pulpit of Kufa saying: “As if I can see the son of Hamida [Hamida is the mother of Imam Musa pbuh] that he has filled the earth with justice and equity, like it had been filled with injustice and oppression.” So a man stood up and asked him: Is he from your descendants or from someone else?” Imam pbuh said: “No, rather he is a man from me.”

– Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.51, hadith 40

It is inevitable that the son of Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq pbuh be the prophesied Qaim

Abdullah ibn Sinan said: I heard Abu Abdullah pbuh saying, when Bidaa’ was mentioned: “What Allah has brought out to the Angels, and the Angels brought out to the Messengers, and the Messengers brought out to the sons of Adam, Bidaa’ does not take place on it. And indeed it is inevitable that this son of mine is the Qa’im.”

– Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.52-53, hadith 42

Imam Musa Al-Kadhim pbuh was also called Ahmed, who is the prophesied Qaim pbuh

Abdullah Al-Rigani said: I was at Abu Abdullah’s pbuh. So the righteous servant (Musa) pbuh entered upon him, so Imam Al-Sadiq pbuh said to him: “O Ahmed, do this and that.” So I said to Imam Al-Sadiq pbuh: His name is not Ahmed. So the Imam pbuh said: “Rather, his name is Ahmed and Muhammad.” Then he pbuh said to me: “O Abdullah, the companion of this matter will be taken away, so he will be imprisoned, and his imprisonment will be long, so if they approach him he will make Dua’ by the Greater Name of Allah, so Allah will save him from between their hands.”

– Al-Ghayba, Al-Toosi, 3rd ed., p.57, hadith 51

[And “the righteous servant” is one of the titles of Imam Musa Al-Kazim pbuh because of his abundant acts of worship and night worship.]

Imam Jafar Al-Sadiq PBUH also called his son Imam Musa Al-Kadhim PBUH by the name Ahmed. This is mentioned in various narrations. And Ahmed is the name of the Qa’im of the family of Muhammad SAWW, Imam Ahmed Al Hassan PBUH. This would mean that Imam Musa Al-Kadhim PBUH is Imam Ahmed Al Hassan PBUH.

Imam Musa Al-Kahdim pbuh is an apparent proof of God and His Hidden Proof

Imam Musa Al-Kadhim pbuh said in a long Hadith: “…Verily, Allah does not leave his His land empty of a Hujjah, not even for a blink of an eye! Either a batin (hidden/ inner) Hujjah or an apparent one. I am the apparent Hujjah of Allah, and I am His inner/ hidden Hujjah. I am the Hujjah of Allah on the day of the known time, and I am the pronouncing/ speaking fulfiller on the behalf of the Messenger. During this time, now, I am Musa, son of Ja’far…”

Bihar Al-Anwar, Muhammad Baqir Al-Majlisi, 3rd ed., v.48, p.41, hadith 16

Manaqib Aal Abi Taleb, Ibn Shahr Ashoub, 1st ed., v.3, p.419

By looking at the previous narrations, it becomes clear that Imam Musa Al-Kadhim PBUH was an apparent proof or hujjah of God to the people, and in terms of being a ‘hidden proof’ of God, it was the fact that he PBUH is also the prophesied Qa’im from the family of Muhammad SAWW who returns during the End Times as the saviour of mankind.

Imam Hussain pbuh does emerge in the end times with the angels as supporters

Abi Abdullah pbuh said: “… and indeed Al-Hussain pbuh read his scroll which he was given, and it was interpreted for him what will come and what will remain, and there remained some things in it which did not take place. So he went out to fight. And those things which remained [and did not take place] was that the Angels had asked Allah for permission that they may give Al-Hussain pbuh victory, so He (swt) gave them permission. So the Angels remained preparing for the fight and getting ready for that, until Al-Hussain pbuh was killed. So when the Angels came down his time had already passed and he had been killed, may the prayers of Allah be upon him. So the Angels said: O Lord, You allowed us to go down, and you gave us the permission to give him victory. So we went down, but You had already taken him? So Allah The Blessed, The Exalted, inspired to them: Stay committed/ stick to his dome until you see that he emerged, then give him victory, and cry over him and over what you missed from giving him victory. And you have been specialized by giving him victory and crying over him. So the Angels cried seeking closeness [to Allah] and grieving over what they missed from giving victory to Al-Hussain pbuh. So when Al-Hussain pbuh emerges, they will be from his Ansar (supporters).”
